Athanasios Lapatinas is a Senior Medicines and Medical Devices Shortages Specialist at the European Medicines Agency (EMA). He previously served as Intelligence Analyst at DG HERA of the European Commission, where he contributed to the design of the EU Vulnerability Assessment methodology for critical medicines pilot exercise and coordinated the data work on ATHINA platform on health intelligence and supply chain resilience. His work focuses on mapping, monitoring, and modelling pharmaceutical supply chain vulnerabilities, collaborating with EU institutions, national authorities, industry, and global partners to strengthen preparedness and prevent shortages. With an academic background as Assistant Professor of Economics, he has published widely on economic complexity, resilience, and crisis management, bridging analytics, policy, and strategy in the service of European public health.
