Joao Martins

Director of Regulatory Strategy at Abbott
Abbott, Portugal

João is a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) and Director Regulatory Affairs Strategy at Abbott.
João has experience in regulatory affairs and quality within the medical device and IVD industries. In his role, he interacts with Abbott divisions by providing strategic direction and technical guidance on EU MDR/IVDR, Eurasian Economic Union, UK and Switzerland regulatory frameworks.
He is strongly engaged with trade associations, such as MedTech Europe (MTE), and serves as chair or vice-chair of MTE´s working groups (WG), such as the Regulatory Affairs Committee, the Notified Bodies WG and the International Regulatory Activities João frequently represents Industry with regulators, such as at the MDCG Stakeholder group, the MDCG International Affairs Group or at the IMDRF newly created industry group.
João is a frequent speaker at international MedTech conferences/events and has been a speaker at IMDRF and RAPS
Prior to joining Abbott, João worked for different device/FMCG manufacturers as well as consulting firms in the regulatory affairs area, covering EU and Middle East geographies
